How to choose healthy sunglasses

The sunglasses are not just a fashion accessory. They must be really high quality glasses that actually protect your eyes from ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Otherwise, the pupil, “deceived” by the glasses, not shrinking from the light and the eye receives an additional dose of radiation, which can gradually lead to retinal burns or even blindness. Best forget about cheap (Chinese) imitations! Choose between glass and plastic lenses with varying degrees of shading and color of glass. A choice of frame depends on the shape of your face. If you do not feel prepared to make the choice yourself, consult an ophthalmologist or consultant in the shop recommended and offers the following criteria to comply with the choice of sunglasses.

Glass or plastic?

Glass lenses provide guaranteed protection from ultraviolet radiation and does not scratch (of course if you do not try and rub them with another example, glass or metal). Plastic is lighter and thinner, but modern coatings also allow them to be very resistant to scratches. However, let’s not cajole ourselves – even the plastic and the quality needs careful handling.

Degree of dimming

Quality sunglasses are necessarily accompanied by a label on which is specified percentage of UVA and UVB and broadcast wavelengths blocked by sunglasses. The lights are measured in nanometers, and provide 100% protection glasses marked 400 Nm. If the figure is less, then let the glasses of the ultraviolet radiation. There are 5 degrees of eclipse glasses – from very light – permeable 80-100% of light to protect eyes from ultraviolet radiation only in cloudy weather, until quite dark, who missed only 3-8% of the light. For urban conditions are most suitable glasses that let in light from 18 to 43% for long and the sun – not more than 18%, but as a mountain resort in winter you need a very dark glasses, which are often mirrored and really serious protection.

Dark glasses with very small bandwidth are not suitable for driving.

You can buy so-called. “Chameleons” – glasses, which change depending on the brightness of light. They need not be removed even in a dark room, because it becomes totally transparent.

The color of the glass

Orange and red colors, which are quite fashionable, are too violent for the eyes and found that even affect the psyche. Yellow is too bright for sunlight and the blue is well tolerated by very few people. The most appropriate and safe to say gray, green and brown colored glass – they best absorb radiation and even soothe the eyes. Keep in mind that the color of the glass must be even, since otherwise the eyes get tired.

The amount

The general rule is that the glasses should be larger. But the glasses are the right choice to make its owner look like a skier. Framework should be broad and to hide your eyes from both sides. Unfortunately, in terms of aesthetics, huge glasses do not go at all. And many prefer to wear glasses with a thin frame. It should however be remembered that small glasses, which are not completely closed eye glasses are bad. Of these, there is little benefit – if the light into the eye, all protections are irrelevant.

The Frame

There are no rules and any recommendations would be subjective. Just take your time and try as many frames. It all depends on your taste, the money you can spend and of course on your individual circumstances. Everything is strictly individual: some have allergies to metals, other long lashes rely too flat glasses. If you frequently suffer from headaches, you can make glasses with leather side frames.
